Empowering People Inspiring Consciousness

Imagine attending a company meeting where business was not discussed. Sales goals, department reporting, and employee reviews were not on the agenda. Imagine spending three days with your boss where your only task was to focus on your self-awareness, consciousness, and your dreams. In this three days, you meet amazing celebrity speakers, participate in soul-changing activities, and connect with your peers in meaningful ways. It’s called E.P.I.C. and it’s a way to “hit the pause button on life.” For Dwayne, its one of his most important investments into his team and the company’s culture.

Empowering People Through Creativity

In the midst of planning a 2006 annual meeting with my team, I decided to throw out all the rules and created a “business meeting” where no business was to be discussed. No pie charts, no sales goals, no marketing plans or business projections. And in their place: discussions of self-awareness, urges to follow your dreams, and lessons about life.

In an industry that requires our staff to be patient, empathetic and mindful everyday, we want to invest in creative and meaningful ways to energize and enrich the lives of our employees and leadership.

Transform a Life at E.P.I.C.
TRANSFORM A LIFE

“A big part of our job is ‘giving’ every day, but this is an opportunity to reflect on the larger purpose of our lives and the power we have when we come together.  Participants report it is the most emotionally draining yet rewarding program they have ever been a part of, with the camaraderie built within teams a recipe for improved team work and staff retention which ultimately benefits residents in our communities.”

The Transform a Life program challenges employees to change the life of an individual in a positive way. Teams of senior management from all Áegis Living locations receive an initial $500 company contribution toward a service project they determine. The blank canvas sparks a collaborative conversation and bond of purpose. Most activities focus on solving root causes of people’s problems, rather than a quick fix.

Projects have included:

  • Contributions to San Diego-based Kitchens for Good

  • Helping a family that lost their home in the Napa fires

  • Supporting a former foster child and several at risk youth

  • Fixing broken pipes in the home of a woman who had been without water for 3 years

Results are shared at Áegis Living’s annual E.P.I.C. leadership event. Transform a Life results are also featured on a wall in Áegis Living’s Home Office, reminding staff and visitors of the company’s foundational culture of corporate philanthropy and the importance of helping others.
